SCHOOL HAS STARTED and things are getting into fall mode. The teens started this past Wednesday night with a new series called, “To Save A Life.” Virgil was excited to have 47 teens on the first night of teens after school started back. Faith Weavers will begin on September 8th. That is our children’s program. We still need helpers for Wednesday nights.
WE ARE PLANNING a fall Sunday School emphasis. But you don’t need to wait! Sunday School is for ALL ages. There is a nursery class, classes for every age through teens and several adult Bible studies. Why not come this Sunday, we have coffee and juice at 9:00 AM and classes at 9: 30 AM.
From Pastor Chapman:
I have been confronted by several thoughts this week. One, I am getting older. Time seems to fly by like it never has. Summer vacation seemed like a year when I was in school. This summer seemed like 2 weeks. Last Sunday I said we are closer to the return of Christ every day, and it’s coming faster!
Another thing I was confronted by was a new sense of hungering for more of God. That is what I’m preaching about Sunday. I really believe we miss much of what God has for us simply because we do not seek after Him.
Finally, I was confronted with the thought that this generation is a victim generation. No one is at fault for their own actions. If you are bad, it’s your parent’s fault. If you can’t read, obviously, it was bad teachers. If you get fired from work, you weren’t wrong, the boss was out to get you. You get the idea. So if you do not grow spiritually….it’s the churches fault!
Last night at prayer meeting I pointed out that 35 years ago there was no discipleship program in our church, you got up and went to Sunday School. You went to church and you went home and studied your Bible. That was your responsibility. Today, people blame God for the failures of their lives when very often, they have failed God and caused the problems.
One last thought. If you do not get the devotionals the church provides, pick one up. We are about to start a new quarter. In today’s devotion, the idea was that a train has to stay on the tracks. It seems constraining, but the train goes to right place because the path is clearly set before it. When a train derails, much damage is caused. What happened? The train left the tracks. We have a path set before us, what happens when we get off the path???
God bless,
Pastor Chapman
